Goblin Market is Kickstarter Bound and the Realities of Creative Work

Coming soon…to a kickstarter near you…Goblin Market by Jerod Leupold (me!)! I feel lucky enough to hit upon a good enough idea for my first major rpg endeavor that other folks thought so too. Gamenomicon (of Party First fame) is going to publish Goblin Market. I’ve worked with Will and Co. before on their latest rpg coming out Twilight War. We are launching along with the much respected ZineQuest 4 on Kickstarter. Click below to follow along!

Goblin Market – Zinequest 4 by Gamenomicon — Kickstarter

Goblin Market is a mischievous tabletop RPG where you play as the peddlers of temptation to unwary Victorian era mortals. The game requires two to four goblins, a game guide, and uses the newly minted All4Two and Scene Builder systems.

While this is wildly exciting news it also means I have been letting a couple other projects slide. I suppose that’s just how things go. I pride myself on being a dogged and relentless worker by meeting deadlines.  I love the game jam format. It has done a great job of igniting my first forays into designing. Unfortunately that’s just not how the creative process works. It’s important to sit down every day to write. But some days are better than others.

Like trying to get just the right photo to upload or settling on a system and then immediately making a new one or finding the right tone between light hearted fun and trauma. Asking yourself what kind of game are you really trying to make here?! Visiting with long lost friends who spark new ideas. And finally, keeping a webpage, facebook, and itch updated with updates!

I am going to miss my first ever game jam; A Monster Sleepaway Camp Mystery will have to wait for a different day. I love the world that I’ve created so far so and I’m looking forward to returning to those lovable awkward teenage monsters encountering their first crushes, puberty, and murders.

While that one is put on the shelf I am fatalistically determined to get a product out for One Page Jam due next month. Tentatively named Dreamnauts. You play as a team attempting to heal an embarrassingly cringe moment that keeps people up in the middle of the night. I’m hoping to piggyback off some rules that I put together for Creators of Myth. Getting everything on one page is going to be a challenge!

I am working on adding a calendar to the web page so folks can see exactly what I’m working on and what kind of deadlines I’m giving myself. It also signals a couple of changes. Updates are going to move over to the blog posts. This means that Ashes Essays are going to slow down a bit while I focus on the kickstarter. If you’ve made it with me so far, thanks for being here! It really means a lot to share this journey. Here’s a peek at some art we are considering!
